RapidFor™ Strep A Antigen Rapid Test

The RapidFor™ Strep A Antigen Rapid Test is a rapid immunochromatographic test for the qualitative detection of Group A Streptococcus (Strep A) antigens in throat swab specimens. The test utilises specific antibodies against the whole cell antigen of Lancefield group A streptococci.

Streptococcus pyogenes (group A beta-hemolytic streptococci) are non-motile, gram-positive cocci that colonise various parts of the body and can cause serious infections. These include:

• Tonsillitis, pharyngitis, other respiratory infections
• Impetigo, endocarditis, puerperal septicaemia
• meningitis, arthritis

If left untreated, these infections can lead to complications such as rheumatic fever or peritonsillar abscesses. Early diagnosis reduces the risk of such complications.

Clinical performance data

No cross-reactivity was observed with streptococci of groups B, C, F and G, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus sanguis, Streptococcus mutans, Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria sicca, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria subflava, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Candida albicans, Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bordetella pertussis, Serratia marcescens and Branhamella catarrhalis.
