RapidFor™ Malaria P.f. / P.v. Antigen Combo Rapid Test

The RapidFor™ Malaria P.f. / P.v. Rapid Test is a lateral flow sandwich test designed for the in vitro qualitative and differential detection of Plasmodium falciparum (P.f.) and Plasmodium vivax (P.v.) antigens in human capillary and venous whole blood samples. The test is intended for professional use only. If the test result is positive, the result should be confirmed in a clinical laboratory with a microscopic test on blood.

Malaria is a disease caused by parasites that is transmitted from person to person through the bite of infected Anopheles mosquitoes. Malaria occurs in more than 90 countries worldwide and more than 200 million people are infected, resulting in around 2 million deaths annually. There are four different types of protozoan parasites that cause malaria: P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale and P. malariae. The most common infections are caused by P. falciparum and P. vivax. After the parasites settle in the human liver, they mature there and are released as merozoites.

Common symptoms of the disease include fever, chills, headache, nausea and diarrhoea, which usually last between 6 and 12 hours. The incubation period is 7 to 18 days and symptoms usually appear about 7 days after the bite of an infected mosquito.
